SoColor Mochas
Overview:

L’Oreal USA / Matrix created the season's spiciest hues with the introduction of its new SoColor Mocha series. Combining both warm and cool tones to create a harmony of shades ranging from chocolate browns to latte blondes, this line extension gives beautiful dimension to hair while providing smooth, rich color. They turned to Diamond Packaging to create a package that communicated color with confidence.

Marketing Goals:

SoColor is the leading professional color brand in the United States and is used in thousands of salons nationwide. With SoColor, there's no guesswork - just exceptional color results. The packaging needed to convey this message and faithfully reproduce the color shades represented on the carton.

Solution:

Diamond designed a carton where form follows function. The economical structure is converted as a glued, single piece with an integrated handle. The handle enhances consumer interaction and identifies the package as a comprehensive kit containing everything needed for creating stunning color effects.

Faithful reproduction of the five new shades on the carton required accuracy and repeatability. Diamond’s new Heidelberg offset press is equipped with advanced quality systems, including spectrophotometry, to ensure accurate color control throughout the press run. Salon professionals can have confidence that the color represented on the carton will match the hair color.

Diamond also employed frequency modulated (FM) screening to deliver near photographic fidelity from an offset printing process. FM screening is unique in that it varies the number of dots used, as opposed to amplitude modulated (AM) screening, which varies the size of the dot. The 20-micron FM dot eliminates all issues related to screen angles, resulting in smoother vignettes and softer color-to-color transitions not possible with traditional four-color process printing.

The result is a carton that delivers impact at hair salons, and truly captures the essence of this exciting new product.
