[See diagram]
- How many colors can you print in one pass?
Diamond's new state-of-the-art Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 offset printing presses can print up to eight colors and three additional specialty coatings — all in a single pass.
The Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 represents the state-of-the-art in package printing technology, providing Diamond with an unprecedented combination of cost innovation and sustainability. It offers the latest in coating capabilities, including a flexo coating unit upfront (to lay down eco-friendly metallic coating effects) and a dual flexo coating unit on the end to apply UV, aqueous, or specialty coatings.
- What is the difference between offset and flexo printing?
Offset printing is a planographic or surface printing method in which an inked image is transferred (or “offset”) from a plate to a rubber blanket, and then to the printing surface. The image and non-image areas are maintained chemically.
Flexography (often called flexo) is a method of printing utilizing rubber or plastic plates with raised images. It is an updated version of letterpress that can be used for printing on almost any type of substrate including plastic, metallic films, cellophane, and paper. It is widely used for printing on non-porous substrates and is also well suited for printing large areas of solid color.
- What is CTP and do you offer it?
Yes, we offer
computer-to-plate technology, also known as DTP
or direct-to-plate. CTP is a total digital
workflow from the point of design to proofing to
printing plate output. We have had CTP as part
of our process now for a number of years.
- How do you accept electronic graphic file transmissions in your prepress area?
We accept
electronic files using various methods: File Transfer Protocol (FTP), email, and disc. We can provide you access to our Client Login
section for our detailed prepress manual
if you require.
- What software do you support in your electronic prepress department?
We have a Mac-based workflow supporting various software programs, which include: Illustrator, Freehand, Photoshop, ArtPro. We can provide you access to our Client Login section to
obtain our detailed prepress manual if needed.
- What proofing capabilities do you provide?
We
provide both analog and digital proofs.
- What types of plastic material do you print on?
We print and convert
APET, PVC, and polypropylene plastic folding cartons.
- What is the difference between UV and aqueous coating?
We offer both coating
alternatives. Each option has different
applications. UV coatings are energy cured and
are capable of higher gloss and rub resistance.
Aqueous coatings are dried using infra-red/warm
air technology.
- Can you provide blister-coating capabilities?
Yes, we offer both in-line
water based and off-line solvent based coatings.
- Do you have a right angle gluer?

Alpina folder gluer with gyro attachment that
allows us to fold and glue cartons that are
normally done in two passes, in one pass and at
much greater speeds than traditional right angle
equipment.

Yes,
our equipment is capable of placing two windows
in one pass. We also offer rigid windows and micro-perforated windows.
