Paperboard
Diamond carefully evaluates all paperboard materials and suppliers in an effort to make the best recommendation for our customers’ products. Our suppliers include Clearwater Paper, a paperboard supplier which has earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and is recognized by The Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit international conservation organization, for integrating environmental and social sustainability into their work.
Clearwater Paper (SBS)
- Dedicated to promoting environmentally and socially responsible forest management
- Both Clearwater Paper paperboard mills are FSC chain-of-custody certified, making Clearwater Paper the only U.S. supplier offering a full caliper range of FSC-certified SBS paperboard
- Clearwater Paper mills emit .35T of CO2 equivalents/ton of production – 30% below the EPA standard for the industry
- Clearwater Paper’s predecessor, Potlatch Corporation, practices a mix of natural and plantation forest management in accordance with FSC guidelines, and has planted more than 80 million trees since 2000
- Invests in continuing education for professional foresters, and has a college scholarship program for high schools located near its operation
- Candesce® SBS delivers package strength at 10% lower weights than recycled board (raises product-to-package ratio)
KapStone (kraft)
- Kraftpak® fibers are obtained in compliance with forest practices consistent with standards set forth by the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI), which strictly governs the growing and harvesting of trees, maintaining sustainable harvest levels, and protection of wildlife, plants, soil and water
- Kraftpak® is a high-yield, low density paperboard which offers a significant source reduction advantage compared to regular-density paperboard grades
- Kraftpak® is a natural, unbleached packaging alternative that is 100% recyclable and made from a renewable resource
- Kraftpak® is FSC certified
- Kraftpak® is manufactured with high yield pulping strategy and byproduct conservation practices utilizing 58% percent biomass in fuel composition
- Kraftpak® is energy efficient and carbon-friendly on a per-carton basis
Strathcona Paper (recycled)
- Strathcona Paper is committed to conducting its business and operations in an environmentally sensitive and responsible manner
- Strathcona Paper regularly reviews their environmental objectives and targets to further improve upon them
- Strathcote is made from 100% recycled fibers (average 65% PCW)
- Strathcote is FSC certified (recycled)
- Strathcote offers excellent printability
- Strathcote features higher density, stiffness, brightness, and plybond than industry peers
- Strathcote is FDA compliant for direct food contact
Rock-Tenn (recycled)
- Rock-Tenn has long been committed to practicing environmental sustainability, having started with up-cycling in 1917
- Rock-Tenn has continued to build processes around environmental sustainability by expanding operations to contribute to key stages
- Rock-Tenn is Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)-compliant, adhering to American Forest and Paper Association guidelines for promoting sustainable forestry practices
- Classic™ is made from 100% recycled fibers (average 35% PCW)
- Classic™ features a smooth print surface for eye-catching graphics
- Classic™ is FDA compliant for direct food contact
MeadWestvaco (mixed sources)
- Selected for the third straight year to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, joining the top 10 percent of the largest 2500 companies in the world, and ranked “Best in Class” in the Containers and Packaging industry group
- Their U.S. forestlands are independently certified to SFI standards, and their Cooperative Forest Management landowner assistance program in SC, GA and Alabama is independently certified to the American Tree Farm Standard
- Printkote® Eagle is made from 70% solid bleached sulfate board with 30% recycled fibers (PCW)
- Printkote® Eagle offers a uniform surface for excellent printability
- Printkote® Eagle offers better stiffness and strength than competing recycled grades
- Printkote® Eagle is FDA compliant for direct food contact
Mohawk (mixed sources)
- All electricity used in manufacturing is offset by 100% wind power
- Joined the U.S. EPA Climate Leaders program to further develop greenhouse gas reduction goals
- Their mill has earned FSC Chain-of-Custody certification
- Renewal is made from 80% Post Consumer Waste (PCW) fiber
