Rochester, NY – Diamond Packaging of Rochester, NY earned five awards in packagePRINTING’s 2007 Excellence Awards Competition, the industry's only competition that highlights outstanding printing achievement across the full range of packaging segments – tags & labels, flexible packaging, folding cartons, and corrugated cartons.
Winners were chosen from hundreds of entries submitted within 41 different categories. Entries were judged on print quality, functionality, and secondary converting and finishing attributes.
Diamond won first place honors in the Folding Cartons - Flexo (Process) and Specialty categories for the Blue Q Get Real Body Splash and Diamond Packaging 2007 Calendar, respectively.
Diamond’s calendar is a popular promotional item given to customers and suppliers. The three-panel calendar illustrates many of the company's internal capabilities, including creative design, stochastic printing, printing and stamping on plastic, spot coating, foil stamping, and embossing.
This year's calendar was designed with a 1950’s retro theme that extends from the header, backer and calendar pages to the Forte™ shipper.
The overall presentation imparts unusual depth and distinction through innovative structural design, combination materials, spot coating, and multi-level embossing.
The header incorporates both paperboard and plastic substrates, which combine to present a three dimensional view of classic hot rods and carhops set against a drive-in eatery.
Die cuts in the paperboard header allow the APET insert to be interlocked into the paperboard, creating a slight radius.
The classic hot rods were embossed and spot coated, creating a unique visual effect and added dimension. Additionally, the Diamond logo and calendar year were hot foil stamped on one side and printed on the other, simulating a neon sign.
Diamond received third place honors for the Love, Chic Baby™ (Folding Cartons – Offset) and Godiva G Collection 2-Piece Mini (Flexo - Line) cartons, and an Honorable Mention for its Diamondessence™ combination packaging self-promotional carton (Specialty Category).
Love, Chic Baby™ is the first pair of luxurious fresh baby scents designed exclusively for little girls and boys and for those who want to pamper them.
Diamond created a carton that features scallop-shaped die cutting around the perimeter of the sleeve and heart-shaped die cuts on the carton top closure panel and the liner insert. The sleeve is further enhanced with multi-level embossing around the Chic Baby™ logo.
The attractive graphics were achieved by offset printing three colors in-line with UV gloss coating and glass pearl coating, which adds stunning glitter effects. The liner features front and back side printing with an overall satin varnish.
Awards were presented during a reception on October 16, 2007, following the closing of CPP Expo/Pack Expo in Las Vegas, NV. In addition, winning entries were highlighted in the September 2007 issue of packagePRINTING magazine.
